CPSIA

Important Information about the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008 (CPSIA)

On August 14, 2008 the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008 (CPSIA) was signed into law. This law changed the requirements associated with consumer products and with children's products in particular, defined by the CPSIA as "a consumer product designed or intended primarily for children 12 years of age or younger." The law stipulates that products intended for use by children must meet total lead and phthalates content limits as defined by the law. For complete details, please visit the Consumer Product Safety Commission web site.

Edwards Brothers, Inc. has conducted investigations and has confirmed through supplier verification that the raw materials used in producing books in its facilities are well within CPSIA safety guidelines for lead. While we do not produce products covered under the phthalates guidelines (i.e. children's products with inherent play value), our suppliers have assured us and our own investigations have revealed that we are also in compliance with these guidelines.

In addition to vendor certifications, Edwards Brothers has also submitted book samples for testing. All tests showed our products to be well within the safety guidelines set by the CPSIA.

How To Make Sure Your Titles are Compliant

To ensure that all applicable products are properly labeled and certified as required by the CPSIA, Edwards Brothers requires publishers to inform us when they are requesting manufacture of a product intended for use by children age 12 and under. All such jobs are identified in our system, a tracking label is inserted on the copyright page (if the client does not specify an alternate location), and a certificate of general conformity is supplied for the job.

Your EB customer service representative can guide you through the process and answer any questions you may have.
